Founded in 1909, The University of Queensland (UQ) is a top ranked university located in Brisbane, Australia. It is the oldest university in Queensland and the fifth oldest in the country. UQ is a member of the Australia's Group of Eight (Go8), and the Universitas 21. It is the largest university in the state, with major campuses at St Lucia, Ipswich, Gatton and Herston. Other locations include teaching hospitals and health centres, the Dental school, veterinary science centres, agricultural science farms, marine research stations, physics research stations, seismography stations and a mine at Indooroopilly.

- Awarded the maximum five-star rating for student demand, student staff ratios, research grants, research intensivity, and toughness to get in (St Lucia campus) (The 2010 edition of The Good Universities Guide). University of Queensland is also awarded four stars for getting a job, positive graduate outcomes, graduate starting salaries, access by equity groups, international enrolments, gender balance, non-government earnings and toughness to get in (Ipswich campus).
- It is the only Queensland university ranks in the world's top 50 in the Times Higher Education - QS World University Rankings. It is placed 41st in 2009, 43rd in 2008, 33rd in 2007, 45th in 2006.
- University of Queensland is rated as the top university in Queensland and one of the best in the nation. Its regional rank in the Australia-Pacific region is 9-16th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities undertaken by the Institute of Higher Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (2008). It is also placed among the top 100 universities in the world in life and agricultural sciences and clinical medicine and pharmacy.
