Australian Universities in THE Ranking 2010-2011

Australian universities performed very well in the rankings of world's top 200 universities by the Times Higher Education (THE) in its World University Rankings 2010-11. University of Melbourne improved its position as the highest ranked university in Australia, ranked 36th globally and ahead of Australian National University (43rd globally).

A total of 7 Australian universities have made it into the top 200 best institutions in the world.

Melbourne University is ranked top in Australia in teaching, research and citations, which measures research influence. It is rated second in industry income and third in international (proportion of international staff and students).

University of Sydney is ranked 3rd in the country and 71st in the world. The University of Adelaide is ranked Number 73 in the world and 4th among Australian leading universities. This places Adelaide in the top one per cent of universities in the world.

The University of Queensland was one of only five Australian universities (and the only Queensland university) in the top 100 (ranked 81st internationally), followed by the University of New South Wales (152) and Monash University (178).

American universities occupied the top 5 list in the prestigious Times Higher Education 2010-11 rankings, with Harvard rated No. 1 in the world.
